Which Macbook Should I Buy to for iPhone App Development?
So you have decided to look at buying a Macbook to make iPhone apps. You may have been using a virtual machine to make iPhone Apps and decided to finally get a Mac, or you might just be diving straight in and getting a Macbook to make iPhone Apps.
You will be looking at the following 3 options:
- Macbook
- Macbook Air
- Macbook Pro
The good news about using XCode for App development isn’t too resource intensive. This means any of the above options will work fine for coding & app development. The main deciding factor too look at is the screen size. Using XCode on a smaller screen can be quite the task, and most developers value screen real estate.
You can get the following screen sizes for each Model
- Macbook – 12 Inches Retina
- Macbook Air – 11 Inches, 13 Inches
- Macbook Pro – 13 Inches Retina, 15 Retina
I personally use a Macbook Air 13 Inches, with the i5 CPU and 8gb memory. I find it is more then enough to run XCode along side Photoshop and other applications without slowing down. I also have a Macbook Pro 15 Inches work that uses the i7 CPU with 16gb of memory. I find the 15 inches screen space is alot nicer, but I really like how light and compact my 13 Inch Macbook Air is and wouldn’t trade it for the world.
So when it comes down to looking at buying a Macbook for iOS App development the main items to take into consideration are:
- The price – how does it fit your budget?
- The screen size – how much screen real estate do you want?
- The portability, will you be using it on the road often?
Depending on your priorities for each of these areas any of the latest Macbooks will work fine for app development
